I've been meaning to post for a while now. Internet is usually down at home so can't do it then - need to buy a new cable modem, I think this one is really begging to just die in peace - my guess is it fried during the no AC period of 2005.
Speaking of which:
I didn't have air conditioning for over 7 weeks which put much strain on my computer equipment, my pets, and my sanity because it felt like I didn't have a day off that entire time. A day off should be a time to sleep in and relax in your home and I couldn't because at least half that time it was 95 degrees or more in the house. The reason was not due to money or lack of effort dealing with it. The main problem other than having a defective new unit put up last year, was that no AC company that my warrenty company paid was willing to admit that was the problem and kept telling me I had a freon leak in my walls - something not covered by the warrenty company and would cost ~$2000 to fix. Eventually I ended paying my own company to come out (approximately 15 days after the defective unit's warrenty ran out) and tell me the truth. Went back to the warrenty and was like "wtf assholes! Gimmie my money back." And instead they charged me an additional $360 for renting equipment to get the new unit up there - this is after several hundred dollars of service fees I've paid to wrongly diagnose the problem. Last year when the unit was installed I didn't have to pay that fee. They owe me - I lost my tenant because of their idiocy. I'll be looking to sue them and get my money back the hard way once I can afford a lawyer to talk to me. Hopefully within 2 months.
Seems like life is always the drama whore. I swore something super happy better happen after dealing with hours upon hours of bullshit with the AC. And it actually did! The people I talk to on a daily basis know this, but I will guess most do not, so here's my massive good news that I'm only typing once. I am leaving ASU, after 7 short years (5 to get my degree, ~2 just working) and going to work at the HOPE Research Institute in Paradise Valley. This is a dream come true. I will be doing clinical trial (drugs) research on humans to try to get everything from oncology drugs to acid reflux drugs approved by the FDA. We are funded solely from the research portion of pharmaceutical companies which basically means there is a HELLUVALOTTA $ invovled. It's my first salary job and they said that they encourage people to train to be 'Clinical Research Coordinators' which means you head studies along with all the usual stuff and they start at $12k more per year. I was told its possible to get to that level in a year. So my dream of research on people is back to practical even without a Ph.D. My parents are exstatic that I'm finally entering the "real world" as if living on my own without help, and buying a house isn't for some reason. Mike is happy for me because I can now be his sugar mamma. :) It's funny that my mom was just looking around for jobs in the newspaper I might be interested in, found this one and emailed me. The morning after I faxed in my resume, they called and set up an interview. After my first interview, I got a tour and set up a time for a 2nd interview 2 days later. The next week they called and told me the happy news. I am very excited. I'll be leaving the lab and ASU on the 13th (this Wednesday) and taking a bit of a vacation. Going to Vegas to celebrate Laura's long-awaited 21st birthday this Friday, coming back Sunday, and starting the new job on the 18th. Credit card debt be gone!
In other news, I got a new roommate for the 3rd floor. His name is Dana and he's got an adorable pitbull puppy named Dutch. Cats aren't too happy but Baby is the only one that makes a big deal out of it, he just can't leave the dog alone and throws fits when the dog wants to sniff him. Ah well, he better get used to it because someday I'll get a dog for myself.
Also, the March 6th party video is technically done, however due to computer equipment frying when it was so hot for so long, it has been postponed. My laptop is also out for the count so I can't use that one. Had massive hard drive failure. It's still under warrenty, it is just the wait that is annoying. Toshiba said they would ship the new one back at the end of last week, so soon, hopefully, I can get back to work on the videos.
I'm sure there's more but I can't think of it at the moment.
Laterz!
